Ixus V2 - Blurry pics on Manual mode

I have the camera for 3 months now, and I just cannot find a way to take a Manual picture and get it focused... so I'm stuck in Auto mode - is there a trick? What should be the typical settings for focused pictures indoors, and outdoors? (Day)

firstly i woud like to mension that you have 2 use a stand if you want to have steady pictures and the secret afterwards is 2 use the self-timer to have some great steady pictures... that's all
