Considering the subject, yes, I think it works nicely...

Yes, but only occasionally.

My test for these is to ask would the image stand on its own without processing, looks like it might, but would have loved to see the eyes.

I vote no. Makes the child look creepy.

It looks too cartoonish for me.

i would say no...when you do that his face became "dirty" (for the lack of better word) - its just too much for my taste

consider fading some of the effect between this, and the normal exposure on the kid's face only.... to reduce the effect on the skin.

otherwise it's really kind of interesting, in a "my momma think's it's special" kind of way. :)

thanks folks. i didnt really pay attention to the skin.so do you think going into photoshop and trying to blend in some of the original skin tone would help. not sure how to do that to make it come out ok.

try putting the original on the edit, then fading it until the face looks less edited, but still shows the added contrast.

then just use a fuzzy brush and erase everything except what you want to keep.

tell ya why im trying to make this work. its for marketing reasons. the kids love this look. especially little ones. so im thinking if i show the kids what they can look like with this technique, then, maybe i could get them a little more excited about the picture taking process. kids, especially this age, love this look.

Maybe, but "Mom & Dad" are your customer.

I like it a lot. But then, I'm an aging grandmother who plays video games - and this style gives it that look. (maybe why the kids think its cool) Agree it can be overdone, but don't see what's wrong with including a couple in a shoot.
