I had the opportunity to head out to a race making a stop in my neck of the woods. It's my first time shooting mtb. I almost didn't bring the stuff for off camera flash but am thankful I did, even if I did have to rewalk the course to find the flash that fell off my tripod.

The first one is nice and sharp, but the 2nd is a tick soft. Also, I'd like to see a better balance of flash to ambient. These make it look like they were racing at night which I assume they weren't. I usually underexpose the ambient 1-2 stops and then set my flash power. This gives you a darker background which helps make the riders stand out, but you can still see that they're riding in the woods. As they are, the riders look out of context.

I agree with tadrscin about ambient light. Expression of the driver is great on #1

I like the first as well and the second is just a parody of it that just doesn't quite have the magic of the first. Great idea though. Sometimes we kind of stumble onto things like that work well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
