I'm not sure if this still counts as photography? It was taken by sticking together exposures from my 400D so I figure it is :)

This is my first timelapse. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Annoyed I didn't wait another hour or so and get more of that nebula that appears at the end.
Comments, advice etc. is welcomed

That is a pretty cool idea. It would be neat to see a whole nights worth.

Is that an airplane or shooting star that shows up around 2.4 seconds in the top left

It's a plane, it made a cool red-white-white dot pattern.
There is a shooting star that shows up a little bit after the plane, lower and to the right.

That's fantastic! I don't know much about this type of photography...what lens did you use?
What does AE and Echo filter mean?

Lens was just a wide angle, specifically my Sigma 17-70 (http://photozone.de/canon-eos/312-sigma-af-17-70mm-f28-45-dc-macro-test-report--review), I think I pulled it in a little (33mm according to EXIF) so there wasn't too much barrel distortion etc.
AE stands for After Effects (http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/), that's the program that I used that pulled all the frames into a movie. And the Echo filter (in after effects) makes an overlay of a few of the frames. I found that made things look a lot better, you get a little bit longer star trails than I could get with my 30sec exposures, and it also started showing some nebulae towards the end of the clip (you couldn't see that when looking at night, or on the single exposures the camera took).
I'm quite new at this myself, to see some of the ones that inspired to go sit in the cold for a couple hours check out these guys:
