Have just purchased EOS 300D is it O.K.to use UV Filter or my other filters with it ,or is it just a means of protecting the lens?

Of course its OK. Just be sure to buy a name brand and not some strange house brand.

Since we don't know what 'other' filters you have, I would say generally that you're okay using them.
The only thing I might mention as a cautionary note is that if you have an old polarizing filter that's not a circular polarizer, you'd be better off not using it.
Daylight filters and UV Haze filters are usually the best choice for protecting your lenses. You buy a lens, put a filter on it, and never think about it again.

Thank you very much.I have genuine Hoya filters for my Canon EF 28-135 IS Lens. The polarizing lens is a circular one ,also an 81c filter. My previous camera was the EOS 50E so I have used them quite frequently. Now waiting for some sun to try the polariser on my new Digital EOS.

I currently use Hama UV filters on both my lenses but I have ordered Hoya filters to replace them.
