i'm guessing now with digic4 bodies out now, canon's pretty much abandoning any further 1d markk3 AF improvements eh?
no rumours like that eh? only askin because i've starting using aiservo a lot more lately and it seems a bit unpredictable / unreliable. i can attribute that to user error so far but with the gloomy history the camera has had, its hard to "forget" about it

canon won't abandon the 1dmkiii for some time, and will likely keep releasing firmware updates well through 2010, if anything is needed. So far, AF system works exactly like a 1d's should, so not sure what you are talking about there. Perhaps you just expect the impossible. There'll be a shiny new 1dmkv for you yet, with 30fps, 25mp, 260 shot buffer, and an internal hdd for you waiting in the next room along with the 300MP hassy body that can do 3fps and a 1024gb CF card.

Improvements? Mine works bang-on 99% of the time. Any errors I can almost guarantee are operator error... shooting in AI Servo most of the time in ratty light.
I may have gotten lucky but I'd like to think that they've resolved the problems by now..

There's still some bodies out there with AF problems, thinking they resolved the problem is fine, but that's what I thought in May when I got a new one.....Back it went. Back to the mk2 bodies...........So, not user error, just faulty AF for my style of shooting, that was my 2nd mk3 body and I waited 4 months to get my 2nd mk3.... til after the last firmware upgrade. So if your body with your style of shooting is perfect 99% of the time then, congratulations....You have an excellent mk3 and I totally envy you like others with no problems because when mine nailed the shot it was the best IQ I've shot with to date.
As I've said before though, I'll not shoot a mk3 ever again, the mk2's are too solid, hell even my center point on the 5D smoked both mk3's I owned:)

Consider that after they released the 1DM3, they still provided firmwear updates for the MKII series (1DM2 and 1DsMkII)
