Hi guys,

I was wondering what you would advice in the way of basic lighting equipment. I have access to a large room with high ceiling.

I don't even possess a flash.

Can you guide me to a basic light set up and flash so i can set up some studio shots.

All this is due to the good old British weather:(

I have decided to go indoors. I would like to do some indoor portraits (low key) and wonder what i need as this is alien to me.

Any recomendations on the kit would be appreciated.

+1 for Strobist. A lot of good information to be found there.

Starting out the cheap route with old (or old-style) flashes and cheap triggers is a great way to get a handle on things - something like a Vivitar 285HV and some PC cords or Poverty Wizards (Gadget Infinity or Ebay-style triggers) is a great start.

I got a 430ex and I just ordered the Ebay triggers, a light stand, and one umbrella to give it a try.
