For the past 14 years or so, my wife and I have been visiting the Lake District (English) on a regular basis - couple of times a year. We have our favourite spot where we got in the routine of photographing ourselves every time we visited and more recently the kids have entered the photos. It is nice to have a pictoral 'history' as it where. I called in yesterday while I was working and found that the recent storm had brought down 'our' tree and destroyed 'our' table. [Rigg Wood, Coniston] I was very sad and haven't told my wife yet. :(

Thats a drag bud. I suppose you are going to have to make sure that table is replaced.

I'm sure the table will be replaced. Just be thankful you weren't sitting there when it came down.

With winds like that, he'd have to be holding onto the table... not just sitting on it. :D http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

It was amazing to see - there is a path of about 12 or so felled trees all in a straight line up the hill. Must have been one hell of a gust. The Forestry Commission estimates about 500k tree came down in the storm.

That's a sad tale Damian.
For sure the winters here in the UK do seem to be more mild, wet and windy.
We had a couple of trees uprooted in the back garden over Christmas / New Year period, with some roof and fencing damage.
( Don't mention Kyoto..... I did once, but I think I got away with it.) :)

Thanks Cameron and Marie. Another windy night last night and day today. I have the kids by myself this weekend and I was reminded of that scene in The SOund of Music - they both were awoken by the rain lashing against the window!

Bad luck mate.. ... sad when sentimental spots change or are ruined.... on the positive side tho, why not take a few clods of the grass that have been uprooted with the tree and plant em in your own backyard... not the same I know.. but a living reminder of 'your' spot.
