The only lens hood for the 300D (Digital rebel) I can find is the EW-60C. Anyone know of a 'flower petal' type hood available? Actual lens is the 'kit' EFS 18-55.

Well if the EW-60C is the hood for the 18-55 (I'm don't know), then that's the hood. I don't know of any "generic style" hoods like that...
Why does the shape of the hood matter? :-P

A petal hood will not work with the 18-55 because the front element rotates when you zoom/focus.

EW-60C is the hood for the kit lens, it's not petal shaped. The front element spins to focus, Canon doesn't make a petal hood for this lens.
I'm not even sure the EW-60C is for the kit lens I think it just happens to fit.

Thanks for the replies.
I knew there had to be a reason the 'petal' hood wasn't made for this lens, but couldn't for the life of me work out why.
Why did I want one?........They look cool of course!;)

It would seem the 18-55 shipped in the US was cheaper as most general consumers are more looking at price compared to another brand then they are in features, where as the 18-55 USM ( which will work with the petal hood ), shipped in japan cuz it seems the consumers there are more hung up on features than price. Either way cant hurt to use a 5$ popup hood.

Can you still use filters on the lens?

You can indeed, they just spin with the front element when focusing.
