Guess this is the best place to ask - saw this in the Metro today - was quite shocked ! This seems to have been discussed somewhere in 2006 in this post (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=180364&highlight=heron+rabbit)
Here is another website (http://www.blogosis.com/posts/odd/heron-eats-poor-little-bunny-186/) with the pics
Bird / Photoshop experts - is this for real ? Never heard of a heron eating something so big ? Also is that a Grey Heron ? or a GBH ?
Edit : Oh no - extremely sorry - this should have gone in to the Bird Talk forum - mods please move. thanks

Hi riyazi
I believe it. Here's a link (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/687172) to another post showing a GBH swallowing a fish that's apparently waaaaay too big for him. I snapped this a few weeks ago at a local marsh just before he flew off with it still stuck in his beak. Makes me wonder how close I should be getting to these birds. :) Sorry for the poor quality - it's nearly 100% cropped and low, brilliant sunlight blew some highlights.

PS - first post here. Great website!

Allen above asked he wonders how close he should be getting to these things. Well, I lived aboard my houseboat down in Kentucky for awhile, at a marina. and there was one that worked the docks there, all times of day or night. I use to sit out on my boat at night and watch him. There were a couple of old ladies that came down to fish at night too, with a 5 gallon bucket to hold the crappies they'd catch. The old blue would sneak up behind them and eat the fish right out of that bucket while they stood not 2 feet away. ;)
I later got to thinking they knew what he was doing and let him get away with a few before "catching" him and shooing him away. :)

From the archives. I can't contest my "catch" is bigger because of the poor angle. I will say catfish are pretty heavy with their fat belly's and might beat you in over all weight.
Let me keep digging. I know I got one bigger then this somewhere amongst 3 TB of files.
Edit: Dug up another contender to Mitch's crown :)

LMAO!!!:p
Reminds me when we were in the backroads here, and I was told there were bear around.we were straining our eyes to see anything that resembled bear . We did see one deer.and I mentioned that it would be great to see a bear snort out of the bush right behind that deer.....
hubby said it would be better of the deer came snorting out of the bush with a bear in its mouth:rolleyes:
