Yup, it was the second result for "hornet sculpture" on flickr. Now this one may be a little bit more difficult. Name of the structure is preferred, but I'll probably accept directions on how to get to it.

Kendoway
26th of June 2009 (Fri), 09:36

This one's pretty tough Jacuff :)

Yeah, I figured it would be tough, but it does reside on the border of the US's most visited National Park. (A small hint for ya.) I've tried using google and flickr and I'm getting only a handful of results. Most are of the view. Very few of the structure itself.

Yeah it is un-manned and sits beside the trail. Hikers/backpackers probably are the only ones to use this place.

jacuff
26th of June 2009 (Fri), 09:53
Is this a place to overnight for hikers?

Officially no. It's not really suitable for an overnight shelter... more of a rest stop/enjoy the view place.

Hehe... I also gave another clue which might help to eliminate the majority of the rest stops in the park. But I'm even having trouble locating much information about it and I know the name. :)

Don't give up yet... I figured it would be tough, that's why I'll even accept the name of the trail you take to get it to. Asking a pretty simple question and using the previous hint should give you the answer to trail pretty quickly.

Sorry, I was outside working on my garage this afternoon. It is the Smoky Mountains, but this particular spot doesn't border any of the other National Forests.

I've got more work to do, so I'll just open it up to whoever wants it.

The name of this spot is Taylor's Turnaround (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jcmx97246fA/R1wcrQmORPI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/RSq6RZcDJk8/_RW_7694+Taylor%27s+Turnaround,+Cataloochee+Divide ,+11-18-07.jpg) aka "The Bus Stop".

I sort of looks like a caste, but there are no ramparts or towers. I'm thinking it might be a prison, or a stronghold/fort left over from WWII.

bahelmer

It served as a fort or military stronghold. I guess what you see in the photo predates WWII, but this current structure represents the evolution and development of a site which was occupied by a earlier forts or castles since Roman times.
