Thanks for the reply. I was looking for a dark effect using the light coming in from the window but may have been able to use a reflector to put a little more light on the right. I don't mind only one side of the face being lit but seems when I show it to folks the first thing I hear is need light on the right side also.

Ignore 'em. It's a beautiful atmospheric shot and they have no idea what they are talking about.

I'm pretty certain that those people will also be surprised to hear that your dRebel doesn't take video.

it's an absolutely beautiful shot of his face
but when the picture is shown fully , the arms (wrists really )look all wrong like that ,
almost like two stumps
(or knees)

something not quite right looking with the pose
the dart of brightness coming in under one arm draws even more attention to that area


the face and eyes are very beautifully expressed.

I know you asked us, so I hope you don't mind me saying too much of what I think

everyone has different views and in the end it's your picture ,
to be the way you want it

I always like the comments of what one is thinking. The comments like "Great Shot" just does not do it for me when you know you are just trying to be nice. Being nice never helps someone see other things on the image they could have tried. Then I can take the comments and either adjust (if I agree) or not act on them. I'm not at all saying that every picture has a comment. Some are "Great Shots" and I always tell someone that when that is what I see. I also try to give an honest critique if asked. I do see what you are talking about the arms, could have crossed them in front of him or had one arm up and one down. Dave

Thanks for the kind words. I really like this kind of shot and will continue to work on it and try all types of lighting trick (when I learn them) as see if it works for me or not.

I think it's great - and I like it just the way it is. Of course, you might get another great photo with different light, but that would be another photo! This one works just great as it is.

I like the expression and lighting but the bent wrists don't look natural. Never was a fan of the propped chin shots, but that's just me. ;)
