My guess... is that if your computer is having troubles with LR2, it won't be so hot with CS4. Specially when you start doing all the nifty hardcore stuff. ;)
Good point (and thanks for the well wishes on Sedona tomorrow, sure you don't want to chance it with the Mopar?).
Brian, I run CS2 in my 2ghz Pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM. When I do noise reduction it takes about 20 seconds to run on a 16 bit RGB TIF (abour 47-52MB file size).
Food for thought.

Oh, I want to upgrade. I just want to make sure I'm upgrading to productive, and STABLE, software. I tried the LR2 trial, and it killed my PC. Hatch was good enough to provide some info on video drivers, and although the settings helped, LR2 is extremely slow. I don't want the same problems with CS4 after shelling out $700.
oh so you need a new PC. Everthing runs fast and smooth on mine, even that lr2 trial, so ya PS will run slow for you as well.

Thanks all. The PC I've got is less than a year old. I've already maximized it's performance, and the only app that has a problem is LR2. Hatch was kind enough to send me a link with information that shows others have similar problems with LR2. It seems that the video drivers cause a bit of a problem, and there is a tweak that helps without totally correcting the problem. It's not a big deal, as I really don't use the brushes, gradient, and other features of LR2. I'm happy with LR 1.4.

FWIW, LR 2.1 has some significant speed improvement...
My Desktop and Laptop both are pretty cutting edge (both less than 18mos old) and Ver 2.0 wasn't all that much to write home about but 2.1 is much better...

Sorry, the Metallica topic way more interesting... but Lightroom... is designed to work on minimal platforms (original intent). I run a laptop and a desktop, nothing fancy and it works great. It is not a pixel poker like PS, but now has local brush adjustments for a lot of functions. It integrates camera raw functions, metadata, and global adjustments into your pictures, like white balance, exposure, black, white levels, clarity, crop/ straighten, noise reduction, vignetting, camera calibration, input/output sharpness, scripting, and supports 3rd party plug-ins... okay, okay I really like it. When I grow up I am going to add PS to it for the serious crunching. (If you are filthy rich, you should get them both.)
Just brought home two new computer monitors. The new 24" Samsung flashes in and out and causes Windows to not boot up. I have not tried the 19" Samsung yet. I am so afraid. Later is a trip back to Best Buy to return, yet again.
To all who are going, have fun in Sedona. I am really trying to get up there on Sunday, but only plan on getting the sunset and some shady afternoon stuff. I am thinking Oak Creek Canyon to stomp some old familiar territory.

Whadda ya mean? I'm no babber mouth. I can't help that you offered each of us your beef and called us Jerkies. Then you and Scott started comparing bananas. Then somebody ( I can't remember who) discussed their red bumps. There was also some conversation about alien abductions and being probed. I had to stop the guys from crashing a wedding. I love the last shot Jeremy. Now I need to go copy your exact location so I can put it on my wall ;)
On a side note, my 2 1/2 year old son did an impression of the laughing smiley on the board. it was pretty funny if you can picture him showing his teeth and moving his jaw up and down. I'll try and take a series of pictures ;)

Ummm... well, the farther north you go, the colder it gets and the leaves are probably already mostly changed. If you try to stay more south than... Flagstaff maybe, you should be good. Sedona had some pretty good color change. Still lots of green, so it hasn't gotten too cold there to make them fully change. I'd say you've got... a week or two... maybe three, but that's pushing it.
That's my guess. :)

Man, I need to check in more! so much great stuff getting posted!
Jay, looks like that fly in was pretty cool! I want to try some airplane shots now! There is some sort of open house at PhxMesa Gateway next weekend (Nov. 1st 9-2)where aircraft will be on display. Click Here (http://www.phxmesagateway.org/Events.aspx) and its free!
Sedona looked like it was a fun trip! Wish I could have gone
Jeremy, Nice shots! I especially like the 3rd one!
Mike the colors in your Sedona shot are great! I really like your Superstition photo also! That B&W conversion works really well on it. All fo the landscape you have posted lately has been awesome!
Becky, cute shots of the kids! use a flash to get those sutter speeds up, when I finally got one it made a huge difference! even the pop up flash mades a difference.
Frank, Kristy and Steve, your portrait work is outstanding! I need to learn how to do that stuff! If you need someone to hold reflectors/lights, or lug gear let me know! I would love to see how you guys work.
I did some "portrait" work for a good family friend today, and it gave me a new appreciation for how hard it is! they didn't want to meet untill 10 so the light was pretty harsh, we will see if they are pleased. I will put some up after I get them processed so you guys can rip them apart!

Thanks. Pretty good catch considering he was hauling the mail at around 300+ knots... The crop results from not being able to zoom out fast enough to get the whole jet when he was 90 degrees in front of me. I was trying to stay really tight head on but he sort of snuck up on me!
[quote]They also give me great appreciation for my planned next lens, the 100-400L. Thanks for sharing those.
The 100-400 is a good lens. Likes lots of light (f/5.6 max aperture of course) but in ideal circumstances, it can produce excellent results.
So did the ultralight vibrate like I'd imagine? Just wondering about IS :).
Three things to contend with shooting from a Challenger II (I did use a 24-105mm f/4L IS)
1) Slipstream wrapping around pilot's windscreen and in your mug the entire time.
2) Slipstream grabbing lens hood whenever you lean out even a little (should have taken it off...)
3) Difficult to turn 90 degrees sideways to shoot. I thought about loosening my lap belt a little .. then thought better of it

Head on wasn't bad as it kinda mashed the camera back into my face and as long as the wind was fully into the hood, it was quite stable.
It was when I swung out sideways that was problematical...

Here is another question, since that craft is so light did you have to tell the pilot when you were shifting around? If he just held steady would you be able to turn the craft left or right by shifting your weight like a hang glider?

The Challenger II model has a pretty good wingspan and with the combined weight of the pilot and myself well below the longitudinal axis, I think we'd have to lean out very aggressively to fly it that way.
An aircraft is far more sensitive to weight shift in pitch than roll. In fact, I've had flight instructors slide their seats back while flying and...up we'd go!
You can fly hands off by using the rudder however! That's fun...

Don't know.
All I overheard was the Fly In Boss talking to someone on his cell phone about it and then I had to move on to other things...
He may have been talking to the Civil Air Patrol 'cause he was asking if they had a plane up that could go take a look or should they just call 911...
I'll have to go a search and see if anything pops up.
