CANON VIXIA quest?

Not sure if this section is SLR video only or if we can ask questions about photographers that want to carry a little camera and need an advice!? :-)

I was looking to buy one of these camcorders so I was wondering what would you chose?

out of those three vixias that you are asking about, the hf10 probably has the best r.o.i., unless you need the 24Mbps that comes only with the hf11.

i bought the hf11, because i use it for prosumer type stuff... i posted my thoughts on the camcorder here: Canon Vixia HF11 review (http://www.codectest.com/productreviews/canon-vixia-hf11-camcorder.html)

i ran into this weird kind of digital dropout with the hf11, but it only happened on a couple of clips... there are some frame grabs in that link that illustrate the problem.

editing avchd can be rather difficult at this stage of the game, hopefully you have a fast pc to use.

What is the native format of the H10/11 at full quality?

AVI or something else. Have Vista 64 bit Quad core and 8 gig RAM.

Used to sony's video stuff and they have weird formats :lol:

it's an avchd .mts file, ac3 audio, variable bit rate video up to 24Mbps... i think that avchd is h.264 wrapped in an mpeg transport stream.

the free vlc media player now supports h.264 and ac3 audio, but you might still get choppy playback even with a quad core... dvinfo.net has some hf11 raw video clip samples that you can download to test, let us know how it works on that quad core.

i have a 6750 dual core pc with 2 gigs of ram, but i use the nero showtime player, and it works great for the hf11 raw .mts files.

Thank you guys, I will search a bit more. There is a dlash mem sony out there but I am just a canon fan so I'll go with the vixia.

i think that the hf11 is the only avchd camcorder on the market that records at the full 24Mbps avchd spec... the hf10 max bitrate, and i think the sonys also, are 16Mbps? hf10s are pretty cheap right now.

all of this stuff will drop in price after thanksgiving.

I own the hf100. the difference between that and hf10, I believe is the color, and included internal memory on hf10. Very very happy with it. the two record in AVCHD format, a compressed HD format. Good sound, great 24P at 1080P. comes with pixela image mixer which will dump the graphic files on to a regular dvd in bluray structure, which is then playable in ps3, and some other bluray players (I use a computer and powerdvd to play them). awesome image quality.

I never understood and have never made the jump to digital video..are there any advantages over VHS or some other type of cassette? I am constantly fearing that my videos would come out a pixely mess with a digital cam.

i want to know how to convert the mts to something i can view? vlc plays them..once in ahwile it will convert with no sound..why is the mts so difficult?
