Signature Question

I have viewed many of the photographs on this site. I have seen many different signatures on the photographs of the authors. I was wondering how people develope a custom signature. Is there a program that will allow you to do this. I use photoshop 7.0 text for my signature, but I am looking at maybe doing something more artistic. Any help on this mater you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day.
