Just thinking this through but wondered if anyone had experience with a 3 light (strobist) setup and maybe even had an example to post.

Here's my thought...Mount two Viv 285s (slow recycle, I know but its what I use) with superclamps and fire with Skyports as I typically do. I'd likely bounce these two at full power. The third light would be my Sigma 530 mounted to a flash bracket and fired with a pc cord and would be direct at maybe 1/4.

I did wonder if I'd be able to shoot the 3rd light in ttl since it would be connected by a pc cord.

Anyway, any thoughts on doing this or am I vastly overthinking things? I will shoot two with a strobist setup as I did last season. Those were shot direct. Just seems like bouncing them and using a third light direct might really make for some nice stuff.

I typically just use two strobes at 1/4 power.

I remember that post like it was yesterday Dave. I usually do the same with two lights as you see below. What I wondered is what if I added a third on a flash bracket to get some additional fill and directed lighting? Just wondered if anyone tried this and what the results were. Can you believe its almost hoops season already? Fortunately, much of my shooting this season will be in an NCAA gym where I can get 1/640 f2.8 and 800-1000 ISO. Very excited to e leaving the lights at home.

Thanks for the input everyone. While I'm not the OP, I imagine I'll be shooting a bunch of basketball this season; and this is all useful info.

Are there any specific rules for flash and basketball? I've shot Volleyball, and flash was a no-no; leading me to believe that without flash in many high school gyms, the overhead lighting is near impossible to use. I'll get a strobist setup if so; rather than lug around lights.
