Following a friends advise, I did a dead/hot pixel test on my 20D images.

Case #1
Shot RAW images with lens cap "on" in manual mode at ISO 400 at 1/30.1/4. 0"3, 0"4 shutter speeds, got completly black CR2 images, converted them to tiff 16 bit & jpeg 16bit in breeze browser. Ran dead pixel test utility on these, result 0 dead & hot pixels.

Case #2
Had shot a few jpegs in the weekend at max resolution in sunny conditions, ran them thru DCE auto enhance for auto enhancing, then cropping & further treatment in adobe ( I know i shouldnt do this, was just trying to learn something...) Now ran dead pixel test on them - ~5000 dead pixels & 147003 hot pixels !!!!!

Now is this normal ? or the way I am testing is wrong , or my camera is really having hot/dead pixels ??

Please comment ...

test is wrong. Must be in total darkness.

Alright.

So basically I should just shoot with lens cap on , right ?
Another story about hot pixels is that it may occur only when camera gets warm/ht.
Is this correct ?

If yes, then test should be done after taking some extra shots.
If not then I guess my camera must be OK.

How do you guys do it ?

FYI, the jpegs showing me hot pixels were taken definately when camera must be hot, I was shooting continuously.

Thank you for your help...
