So i got both the 50mm primes in today, Im planning on doing an extensive test on both the 50 1.8 and 50 1.4.
look here for the actual blog with setup pictures (i know its ghetto).

This is my first time, and i am definitely no good at it, if i still plan on doing more i need to make myself a dedicated light box...

Far above average if your target is eBay. Looks pretty much like what I do. I'll put more effort into it (ie knocking out the background completely) for a stock type photo. I actually light mine from above with a softbox & foam core on the left & right. Set up is a product photography table w/the curved background.

yeah i want to make some sort of light box or foamcore background/product stand.
I think it looks mediocre. I dont like teh harsh shadows, and i used the wrong lens, i need to use a longer one

The harsh shadows are a result of using two flashes direct without diffusing them.

i know, thats why i plan on using softboxes next time, i thought maybe the paper would diffuse them lol

If you put a piece of paper to diffuse the light that is going to be aimed to the front element of the lens it will do wonders ;) also remember to clean the lens :). the rest is nice :D
