View Full Version : DIDN'T GET ANY COMMENTS?? POST HERE!

This is more of a challenge than a competition.

The facts:
If you posted a thread with photos and it received NO comments, you are why this thread has been created.

Often people don't know why their photos aren't commented on. Sometimes they are just missed sometimes they aren't very good and sometimes we're just busy and don't take the time/effort to comment.

Rules:
1. Your thread must be at least one month old and have no comments before you submit it here.
2. Post your photo and link to your original thread. If your original thread had multiple photos, choose ONE to represent it here.
3. You posted that thread for a reason. I want to hear why. What response were you wanting (i.e. critique, comment, help)? You must include this with your post.
4. Sorry but NO G&N photos (since they cannot be posted outside their section).

CHALLENGE: for those of us who only comment on our "own" sections...or in our own comfort zones...or only on our friends threads...the challenge is to reach across the sections to others.

I do want to be clear...ONLY CONSTRUCTIVE comments are allowed. NO RUDENESS is allowed in here. There are many ways to help without being rude :) If you like the photo, say so. If you don't, don't just say "I don't like it"...say something like "it would be more pleasing if...." or "might have received comments if" and give helps.

I think a thread like this could go far for drawing others into the POTN "community".

So who's going to start? ;)

Riverside Walk (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=263124)

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a294/peteghia/Pangbourne%20Meadow/IMG_5694.jpg

I wanted this to be a little narrative of a riverside walk with both wildlife and other walkers. I was expecting some kind of comment on the composition and subject matter, but fr whatever reason, I didn't ask for feedback in the thread (I simply expected responses).

thanks for posting that Pete. That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about.

I'm unsure why you didn't get any comments. I think your thread did tell a story with the photos, you showed the inhabitants of the river, the people/animals recreating there and the fact that it was a swollen river. I liked it! Technically some of the photos are a little dark but over all it was a perfect example of a river walk. :) edit: I think sometimes we forget why we take photos when we get lost in technique, pixel peeping and etc. Sometimes things just make us smile. good job

Thanks, Lisa. Nice write-up. It's been a very long time since I've had a walk like that! :D

Hard to believe those didn't get any comments - I love the dog shots!

It's because I didn't ask for any. If you demand nothing of your viewers, then they're less likely to give anything back to you...

You may have a point, Pete about not asking for any comments. Now that you've linked here though, I will have to say nice series from your walk. The back lighting on the swan is fantastic, really shows the layers of feathers in their wings. The back lighting on the dog would be too harsh on a lot of shots but works well with this subject.

Have you got the hang of your monopod yet? ;)

Nobody else wants to play? Ok, then I'll mention this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=58593) of mine from a few years ago. It got 412 views (so far) and no comments. I didn't think the photo was that bad...

I like this one....not sure if I like it with the driftwood or without? The horizon needs a lift, but the muted colors in this are right up my alley.

The horizon does look a little crooked, now that you mention it. I believe I took this before Photoshop came with Bridge and made it so easy to fix crooked horizons. If I ever re-edit this, I'll fix that.

I like it too. And I'm wondering if I would like it better w/o the wood too...but the low angle leading in to the scene is cool

I like it with the wood, nice photo.

I think the wood adds interest to the photo (I didn't want to imply it didn't) but the angle is drawing your eye in to the shot but the wood sort of stops your eye right there rather than the follow through. That's the only reason I was wondering how it would be without it.

Sorry...I'm super busy today...but I just wanted to elaborate on what I was thinking. :) In any case, it's a photo that makes you think about it!

I like it! I love close-ups though. And the texture on the skin really shows up well. It makes you really look at the elephant in a new way (not just on the large land animal scope). Works for me.

A lady in a bathing suit might stop my eye, but not a little piece of driftwood.;)

Tommy, really sweet close up....

I tried it without the wood:confused: and it works as well. . Draws you into the rocks and the shore much easier....but thats just my bend:rolleyes:

Lonnie, look at the interest now!:p

I'll stick one in here. It's from the Red Bull Air Races in San Diego earlier this year and I posted mainly just to share. I usually don't specifically request any critique because I figure if people even comment at all, usually they will tell you what they do or don't like about it. I wasn't too excited with my shots to begin with, and I didn't put much (if any) time into post processing, so I wasn't too surprised that they didn't receive any comments.

Justin, you have some very good shots on that link. I love the first one and there's a couple in the middle of the post that I really like too. The one you posted here has interesting content but photographically is probably my least favorite. Over all though, I really like the shots you got from that day.

Justin #1 and #6 are very impressive catches of the planes going through the pilons. Others in you series are also quite inpressive and it looks like you had a nice day. The shot you put in here I would crop so the helicopter is closer to the right third of the frame since it is moving this would give more room to move into. You also got good prop rotation on the planes, I'd like to see just a bit more on the helicopter. Over all it is a great series in spite of all the challenges you mentioned.

I agree with what Lisa says here.
