educational discounts on hardware?

Am replacing my computer to accommodate CS4 and was wondering if there are hardware educational discounts out there?

I think Apple does give educational discounts here. (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/education_routing/) If you can wait until BF though, there should be a lot of great deals that will blow away any discount right now.

When I was in college (many moons ago), my college bookstore carried Apple which were priced lower then buying from outside. They also had "back to store specials" as well as "truckload specials" (you take computer right off a semi).

Now that Apple also using Intel chips, I'm not sure there is any huge performance advantage to buying Apple - I'm guessing Apple still more expensive then similar performance PC (Microsoft WIN based).

For Apple, it's best to go to your campus computer store since they actually have lower pricing than the Apple EDU discount pricing.

As far as Dell and Gateway, both give general EDU discounts, but depending on what your campus has setup with either company, there may also be better pricing on specific models/configurations which will only be found via your custom store (i.e. Dell "Premier Account" portal page).

No performance difference at all, infact given that new technology gets to market a lot quicker with PC's than it does with Apples, it its currently possible to buy a PC that is faster than any Apple (but only just, and that should change when they hopfully update the range before chistmas).


Depending on where in the world you are, there is often a premium on Apple products, there is a huge one here in NZ.
In the US however, it appears that to get a similar spec and quality PC will cost just as much.
Of course there is a much large choice of PC products, including budget options that Apple can't match.

Was wondering if the same scenario existed for PC hardware.
