I have a chance to get a new A80 but I noticed a lot of refurbs out there. EVERBODY has'em ! Maybe someone can tell me if they had a lot of problems. On paper they look great....lots of metal,ie; tripod threads. Any help would be great!

Moppie, I'm glad to hear that. There aren't many new ones left. It took me HOURS of searching but I found a few.One retailer wanted $399.95.....and wouldn't budge! I honestly think the industry is headed for all plastic disposable cameras. You use'em for a couple of years and throw'em out ! I bought a new A series last week and sent it back. It felt like a $10 transistor radio.

I have had my A80 for just over a year and taken 1500 pics. No problems at all even though I dropped it twice on the carpet!! Good luck if you get it.

Thanks ! I found the two cams I was looking for, S230 and an A80, both new. It took nearly a week but well worth the work. The former will give my S200 a well deserved REST ! The A80 .....well, you don't need a reason but it replaces an old Rebel that's 16 years old.

My wife has had an A-80 for about a year and it has been perfect.

I've dropped my A80 twice as well; once the camera pocket fell off my backpack strap onto a parking lot (> 4 ft.) and once one of the dogs knocked it off the couch onto a rug. It still works welkl, although some of the panels are a little dented/sprung.

I've been using mine since June, my birthday, and it's been wonderful. I came from using a simple 'point and shoot' Minolta, and this has really helped me pick up the basics of manual photography. By switching between the different pre-sets and the manual options, I've learnt how the settings change your photos (in basics - none of this technical stuff!) and because it's digital, I can see it straight away. From using this, I have started using my dad's Minolta DiMage 5 which is slightly different and seems more complex. The screen being on a pivot it also very useful; I took it to the Sprite Urban Games, and with a bright sun, it's much easier to point the camera up and keep my head down!

Thanks for all the replies. I found a dealer in PA that had one left. It's enroute ! I use a tripod quite often so metal threads on the camera is a must. The A series are great to take camping, pack easily and if something happens you're not out a $K. The A80 fits my needs to a tee !
