I took some family wedding shots on a compact flash 2.0 sandisk memory card. I fininshe the card put another one in and when that was finished. I accidently put the first one back in and shot over some of the existing outdoor shots. Does anyone know if those files can be retrieved? I know you can recover deleted files with recovery software but I dont know about over written ones unless they are stored in a seperate file until you format the card. Any one with any info would be greatly appreciated

Sorry denise, once you overwrite the data there is nothing you can do to recover that file, been there too.
if you formated the card and then shoot, there is a chance, try some data recovery software, maybe the new shots didnt overwrite the old ones

im confused... how did the camera "overwrite" files that IT put on there? i dont know of any camera that will delete files to keep taking pics... are you sure they are gone and not in a diff folder? i thought i lost a chunk of shots but the cam went past 100-9999 and created a new 101 folder...

I usually stop well before filling a card up so I'm not 100% sure, but don't you get a card full message and can't overwrite files? Tony

You did not reformat the first card? Did it fill the card. The camera doesn't take shots when the card is filled.
