Hi,

I'd like to get my daughter a digital camera for her graduation this coming June. I already have a Canon DSLR EOS Rebel which takes a CF card, and I have 3 CF cards for it.

So I'm interested to know which cameras take CF cards (so we can share the cards I already have), in order to not have to start buying a different type of memory card (ie xP, SD...).

Does anyone know of someplace on the internet that lists makes/models of cameras and what type of memory card they take? This would be my starting place to find a digital camera for her.

Thanks ever so much.

Gardeness,

certainly the storage media is not the most important aspect of the camera, right?

If you want your daughter to profit as much from her camera as you do, pay attention to get a camera that has 'creative' modes. Many P&S cameras (especially non-Canon) only have some 'sports', 'portrait' or else preset modes and no possibility to select 'A', 'T' or 'P'.

If you're not afraid to look at a site with a totally different language, the German site http://www.digitalkamera.de/Kameras/Profisuche-de.htm does have a database that allows you to search for all kinds of digital cameras based on a variety of search criteria.

Best regards,
Andy

Wow - such great responses! I'm glad I have the time to review all the sites and not rush into this. I do want her to be able to use 'creative' modes - thanks for pointing that out Andy. digitalkamera.de (http://www.digitalkamera.de/)seems to be a great place to search for cameras based on whatever criteria is important to me - just wish I'd picked up more German from my parents. I'm able to translate some of this website, but feel I'm missing a lot too. Would there be a comparable site in English?

No, memory storage isn't the most important aspect, but if we can share CF cards - all the better. I'm considering the Canon A85 for her, but haven't completely committed yet. Cannot go much higher in $$$.

Thanks all.

Just remember that if you share memory cards, the in-camera numbering will go haywire, since the camera will pick up the at number last used on the card, even if it was from a different camera.

If you are considering a Canon A85, I recommend that you visit this site everyday for a while: TechBargains (http://www.techbargains.com/) . Look for a coupon code from Dell. In January I paid $257 for an A95, shipping included. It took 2 weeks for delivery.

Jon - thanks for the reminder. We always make sure to download the camera pics to the computer and format the card after every shoot. That way our cards are always empty and ready to take lots of pics whenever we are - don't have to worry about numbering or cards that are almost full to begin with. But it's an important point to remember.

Threevok - thanks for the TechBagains link. Seems most of the coupon deals are in the US (naturally), but I will be watching the International area for a while. Never know when a good coupon will show up.

All hints and tips are appreciated all the time!
