View Full Version : P.O.T.N. Camera Strap logo.

OK you PS wizards, let it shine. With all the positive response on the P.O.T.N. custom camera strap, it is now time to choose a logo to have screened on.
The space that is available for screening is 5.25 x 3/4 inches. The actual size of the "free" space is 5.5 x 1 but we need some free space around the edges.
To take into consideration, the strap will be black in color and that the silk screening will be one color only. If the name "Canon" appears then written permission from Canon Japan must be obtained before we process the orders.
Let's toss out some ideas for a week or so then we can run a poll and choose the winner. (Prize for having your design chosen is a box of KD :) )
Once the logo is chosen, we will have a "sticky" thread where folks can order as many straps as they please.
Thanks to all for the support.

I like this one if the stripe is included. Then those that want to can overcolor it with a red Sharpie.

I like Pekka's duck one. Alas, I understand that it might not suit everyone here. :-(

Since I'm noted for a lack of imagination I may have to think on this one for a while.

Just POTN in bold letters (anyway you prefer). We have to sound dangerous or something :D

POTN per se is not very good text - just Google POTN and you'll see.... :)

If shorter text is needed photo-on-the.net gets here, too (does not sound cool, though)!

Ok. Here is my submission. I may come up with something else but I think this says it all. If you want you can always red sharpie the canon and line. :D

I don't know. Making it a bit mysterious sound cooler than a blunt advertisement. Just POTN if you ask me.

I like it. Just curious - do we need permission to use the word 'Canon'? And if so, what about the Canon logo in white?

Not if you put two "n's" in it. :)

We will definitely need permission from Canon to use their name on the strap and they will be very explicit as to font and color. This is something that I go through on a daily basis with my company too. Now all we need is someone who knows the right contact at Canon to make the request. Pekka?

I'd prefer the red-canon. red-line, white text.

But Somewhere it was said that extra-color (red) couldn't be done...

So all in white wouldn't be bad either...

Nice Work:D

I like the red, it looks really good.

Will Canon come on board for this? That is considering we want to restrict this to Canon, and not just POTN.

I've mailed Canon Finland about using the real logo. I'l post as soon as Iget some info.

Red seems good to me too. I suppose we could get some red, some white. I would have used the Canon letters but as I stated in another post, that was the closest I could find. The idea is absolutely to have the Canon letters.

Conk,

I liked your original idea of red and white from the other thread, with the red Canon logo and red stripe with the rest of the lettering in white, but I only suggested this because Ian said that we are limited to one color on the silkscreen.

I like the submission from pcasciola. The red on black is nice, just like the red strip on a black "L" lens.

I like the witty ideas a lot, but I do think we should get our feet wet with a basic message like Conk's and then branch out into witticisms. Perhaps the next time (if there is one) we order some 'straight' and some of a 'limited edition, never to be seen again' version. First we satisfy the 'L' freaks (most of us), then we placate the duck fans (a significant number), then perhaps the motorsports enthusiasts, then...

My latest 2 cents.

Yeah, it was more of a joke, but we do need an idea in the likely event that Canon does not respond, or responds with a no for using their name or logo. Maybe just drop the Canon and go with Digital Photography Forum, or just the URL?

Either way, I agree. I like Conk's basic concept. I'm ok with white or red, but I prefer the red to represent the L stripe.

In a prior life I worked at a car dealer, and there were several independent repair shops in the area that had signs like Volkswagen Repairs, Volkswagen Service, etc. VW of America came down hard on them and required them to change to Repairs For Volkswagens, Service for Volkswagens, and the like. The inference was that they were claiming to be authorized service facilities.

So if we get static from Canon we might be able to switch to Digital Photography Forum for Canon Users or something like that.

But I hope we won't have to.

I'd go with the white printing, and throw in a "free" red Sharpie with each order.

*Update*
All we are waiting for right now is approval from Canon on using their name on the strap. Hopefully Pekka will get word this week. Once that is settled then we will settle on a logo using a poll. Right after that a Sticky will be placed with the official order info.
As it stands right now, the strap will be black only with either white OR red lettering. Two colour screening is not an option offered by OP Tech. It would be great to be able to offer color options and screen options but it is not in the cards this time.
Stay tuned!

Just out of curiousity, does it have to be screen printed or can we have it embroided. I know that I will be ordering one of these, but I can see myself getting disappointed when the screen printing starts to peel. I don't know what the price difference will be, but with embroidery we can get multiple colors. Just for an example for pricing, I had a run of custom patches of a unifrom made, they went for 50 for $100. The price would drop the more I had made.

As I understand it, this is all being handled through OP/TECH, and I believe all they do is screen printing. IanD would have to verify.

Stephen,
OP Tech is not equipped to embroider, only screen. The quality of their screening however is top rate.

We are still awaiting a reply from Canon about using the Canon name on the POTN strap. This is the only detail left. As soon as a reply is received, we will press on!

I am interested in the strap, but one thing concerns me. Has anyone used one of these straps for a significant length of time? I'm wondering if the plastic clips might be prone to breakage or accidently coming unclipped. I'd hate to have my camera go crashing to the ground. I'd sure feel a lot more comfortable with a positive locking mechanism. Something that requires more than just squeezing to release.

I have OP/TECH straps on all of my cameras, and I think you will find that many others here have them as well. The clip/buckle is one of the most secure I have seen. Once it clips, it is solid. OP/TECH has an excellent reputation for high quality products. I would not worry about the clips.

Thanks CoollToolGuy. I will wear it in confidence then. I hope enough of us buy them that I will run into someone wearing one some time. Now, I've just got to get some time to get out and take some pictures.
