Canon will introduce a successor for the popular 300D at the PMA: probably named 350D, the camera will feature 8.2 mp sensor, still 1,6 cropfactor.

You forgot to post the link to the fake UPC code database... :D

We already know...... :)
Here's some REAL news: Canon has introduced a special version of the 20D, the 20Da.
See here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=58001

And, the same UPC database also mentioned a Canon EOS 70D, a 14 megapixel Minolta 9D, a 12 megapixel Pentax *ist DXs, ....

...found this in my web wanderings, not sure if it is for real or a fake, as usual you can tell nothing of the specs from the imgae, the specs 1.6x and 8.2MP with a release of 20th Feb were there to.

Hmmm silver version of the 18-55 though?

That's quite similar to the picture I have. The pic I have has a badge on the bottom right of the pic saying 350D, you can see mode of the mode dial, and the lens is black. It may be slightly interesting to note that the lens release button is in the 20D style, not the 10D.

It's another fake!!!!!!!

The person responsible posted it on dpreview a few days ago saying as everyone else seemed to be doing it he thought he would have a go, he based it on the 300x/RebelT.

Excellent! Thankyou! Its a pretty good one though!

I have done some interesting ones myself, but never passed them off as genuine. I see no point in hoaxes the achieve nothing and just waste time

When it was originaly posted it was called canon350fake.jpg, its obviously escaped from dpreview and got a new name.

Roanjohn I said that in my earlier post it's based on the 300x/RebelT.

Here's the 'real' replacement (no honestly, I saw it on the web so it must be true).

It's the i-Rebel. Available in a choice of colors to coordinate with Mac Computers. It'll be the same performance as the regular Rebel D but be easier to use, have limited compatibility and be strangely more expensive.

Thought it looked like the 28-90 Mk3 on that body as well.

FlyingPete
14th of February 2005 (Mon), 13:38
Yep, one Google Image Serach for EOS300X later, and we have the original:
http://www.lowden.orcon.net.nz/eos300x.jpg

So thats where the silver 18-55 came from, it was really a 28-90. Nice touch with the white EF-S marker though.

Do they do a transparent case version as well, I would love one of those :D

He missed it in the orginal and edited it when some one pointed it out.

Tp be quite honest it would not surprise me if this is not too disimular to the actual thing.

The fakes are probably 'launched' by Canon itself to cause rumours etc. Same thing is done in the automotive industry. It gets up expectations and anticipation. So we all go out and BUY BUY BUY as soon as it arrives. The 350 is coming at the PMA, though. Picture or no picture.

Seriously though, i'm not allowed to post the pic I have, but picture a silver 20D with a 350D image on the bottom right (as viewed from the front). I don't have a rear picture, i'm 95% sure it has 4 buttons instead of the 20D style scroll wheel.

Tom W

I bet that Canon is going to feed us a little new stuff each day all week. They love tantalizing the consumers. :)

Got to admit, though. Anticipation is fun.

Ok, if you didn't get it from the UPC database, then where did you hear about the 350D? There have been rumours about a 300D / Digital Rebel upgrade since a few months now on several Internet sites. What makes your source more reliable than those rumours?

The source is a Canon dealer/distributor in The Netherlands. Why do I believe him? As you can see on the wellknown site www.dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com) many pressreleases from Canon about new products are issued not in the US or Japan, but in..... right: Amstelveen, The Netherlands.

Am I right? Is my contact right? Time will tell.

I think Bodog's point is that we have had posts regarding the "350D" on THIS forum for the past two and half months,.. so if it does come to pass,. those three month old rumors that can be found here in our own rumor threads will be "right"... ;)

And how do we know that your contact didn't get his info from here? Eh?

OK. Point taken.

Facts and rumours are two kinds of information, there is much less use informing everyone if rumours become facts and it just it ain't news anymore...

Anyway, I'm happy with my 1Dmk2. Don't suppose anyone has a nice little rumour about a mk3, or better, a price drop of the 1Ds mk2?;)

In my opinion rumors are complete waste of time. Facts is what I want to see.

I believe it was some plasticky like stuff comes in rolls in little cases. You have to keep it out of light untill you want make a picture. When you are ready to use it, if I remeber correctly, you open the back of the camera and put it in, take a picture then with a system of levers and sprockets you have to wind it on to take the next picture (more up market models had a motor to do this).

When you have used all the frames?? you had to wind it back into the case and then take it out of the camera. The next bit was realy complicated you could send it away to a processor and they would send you back your pictures. Or you take it into a darkroom, take it out of the case, put it into a cocktail of chemicals and shake it up for a bit, then you have to wash it, and you made prints by putting it in a projector and project the image onto some special paper. I believe that you could alter the image simular to using photoshop, but I am not sure.

Oh and it's not reusable and you had to use different ones for different ISOs, black & white, colour etc.

It sucks to have knowledge you're not allowed to share!

The key thing i've said is "the 350D will be to the 20D what the 300D was to the 10D, but with a couple less limitations". I think it will be good for the cheaper market segment, but like I said, I just got a 20D - partly because of the color ;)

Tom W

Like i've said before, most people with real information are under an NDA.

Canon seems to be enforcing the NDA particularly well this year. Even Paul Pope hasn't posted at DPR for a month or so.

As I've said elsewhere, I would be very surprised if Canon did NOT replace the DReb/300D at PMA.

Better not, I have seen this happen as well, although we were not told by the drunk individual that his information was under NDA that he spilled utill the next day when he realised his screw up.

Moral of the story, find the nearest Canon rep, and shout him/her a drink!

That explains what all those little gray plastic cylinders in my freezer are for. I did wonder. Kind of like a single use memory card that you need a special reader for.
