I am trying to do consistent reliable off camera flash using a master and slave. I am using a Canon 30D. I have two Canon flashes - a 580EX II and a 430 EX. I know that the 580 can control the 430 using the built-in wireless system. But I am going for consistency. I want to still have the 580 on the camera and trigger the 430 which is sitting in a corner of the room somewhere. Will Elinchrom flash triggers work this way or am I dreaming?
Thanks for your insight. I appreciate it.

Skyports should work as will any radio trigger system They do not however retain ETTL. You shoot your flash in manual.

How would I effectively attach them? Doesn't the master Skyport need to be sitting on the camera itself, or can I hang it off the camera, use the master on the camera and trigger the slave that way?

You can attache the Skyport to the PC port on your 30D and leave the 580EX in the hotshoe. Again, all flash units in manual mode.

The transmitter can sit in the hotshoe of the camera or plug into the PC port. Since you're using a wireless remote to trigger the flashes, there's no need to have a master flash any more. You can take the 580EX off-camera and connect a Skyport receiver to it. And, of course, you'll also need another receiver for the 430EX. Both flashes will need to be in Manual mode since ETTL is not available when using RF remotes to trigger the EX flashes.

The sync cable that came with the Elinchroms does not plug into the 580EXII. The SYNC socket on the universal receiver is a 3.5mm sync socket (male). The other end is also a 3.5mm sync socket (male), but the 580 is expecting a different connector. There is an additonal cable that came with the kit with the correct end for the flash, but the male end is too small to plug into the SYNC socket.
Anyone know where I can get a 3.5mm sync socket (male) with the other end being the kind that plugs into most flashes? Suggestions??

I have a skyport system. go to flashzerbra.com look for screwlock PC to PW or Elinchrom skyport adopter cable.
