thats a great photo... Is that pacifica as in right outside of san fran? If so I grew up near there in san bruno.. I was wondering what setting you use for something like that and what glass did you use? I shoot motocross in norcali and I am wanting to decorate my home with some shots like this but I do not have the slightest clue how to get them like this.. I have looked for books, internet revies everywhere and can not find anything to give me some basics.. Is this picture photoshopped? If so what did you do lol I know lots of questions but I need to know this stuff :D

Yes, this is exactly the right Pacifica. This was taken on top of a cliff near the hotel that we were staying at. Boy that was a hike, the way down was even worse with all the equipment.

In anycase, the other shot was taken with a few lens attachment. First a ND Graduated filter. Than a Cokin Blue/Yellow geltin filter. Shot was taken at f16. Exposure time was close to 30sec. (can't remember exactly). This shot WAS NOT taken from a dSLR. Film was Kodak HD 400.

my sentiments too... at anywhere near 30 secs, i wouldn't expect to see that kind of swell definition.

when you say forst with a ND graduated filter THEN a cokin blue/yellow geltin filter what do you mean.. ?? U changed filters when?? I know exactly now where that is.. I grew up not even 1 mile from there..

Sorry about that...forgot the post the new picture from the cliff!!! It was late last night...


The Cokin filter system has 3 slots that allow you to put 3 different geltin filters. the ND was 2 stop, and the blue/yeloow is another 2.5 stop The Cokin system isn't like your normal screw in. It comes with an adapter for the lens, than the filter holder goes on it after than you can slide in your geltin filters on to the mount.

With film you can do multi shot in a single frame. however I didn't do it with this shot.

I will post the picture of the hotel from the cliff, I remember taking a few shot of it. .... Than you will know exactly where I was :) :lol:

Oh yes thats rock away beach.. Did you go to "nicks by the sea" to have a crab lui? lol I grew right on the other side of the mountain on the left.. Not even a mile from there.. Just moved from there 6 months ago to sacramento area...
Ok now back to the picture lol.. I have a 20d and a 70-200mm f/2.8 and my other lens is what I want to get these polarizer filters for , its a ef 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5.. What filter(s) should I buy .. I want to get a the bluer skies and the contrasty skie look...

depends. I was taught using large and medium format, so I like the drop in filters. But alot of the manufacture makes screw-in type multi color filter (I think). The only screw in filter I have is a CIR-POL... the rest are B&W filters, yellow, green, orange, red, and blue.... most of the fun filter are all Cokin.

Or you can stack em. Get a ND Grad. Than get a Blue Grad, and than a Yellow Grad. Put the ND and Blue on the upper half of the horizon, and than the yellow on the bottom. The question is, I don't know if they are stackable. :)

Regarding "Nicks by the sea", sounds kinda familiar, but not sure. But I did go to this haunted restaurant.

Thats the moss beach distillery... Good food there.. I lived on the street heading into that parking lot.. Thanks for the info I am going to get the cokin P series with a couple filters..

Hey if you get a chance sometime in the next few days can you direct me to these cokin p series filters I need to get.. I have a 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 it take a 58mm screw on filter but I want to get this cokin one with the filters you mentioned just cant find them.. Well I found them just dont know what the hek to get lol

You are getting the P series right, so just get
Grad Blue, Ref: 123
Grad Yello, Ref: 661
Grad ND, Ref: 120

Of course if you already notice, they have different density of each color. But those one are the "medium". But since they are so cheap, you can buy a whole lot of them :)

cool thanks alot so I just need the screw on cokin adapter and then these go into that right? Sorry man ive never seen anything like this and i'm trying to understand it
