Last month since I started using LR2 + CS3, I realized that my computer needed more memory. 2GB is not enough so I bought 8GB and upgraded from Athlon64X2 2.0Ghz to a a Athlon64X2 3.0Ghz and I moved to Vista 64.
Now my pc is running great, no problem at all. But I notice that I have to start thinking carefully how to organize and place pictures in my pc. I just started taking pictures around April and I already have 150Gb of pictures. So If I don't start to plan ahead problems will arrive sooner or later.

I wonder which would be the best way to organize my pictures in my computer to get better performance and backup. I have 2 HD of 500Gb each. I always placed my pictures on my system HD and then back them up on the other HD.

I was thinking to leave the System HD with just Programs and then place my pictures on the second HD and back them up to an external HD(I already have one 500Gb). What do you think?

I keep my photos on my computer's internal hard drive, and run a nightly backup to an external hard drive of equal size.

I have just about filled up a 500 GB drive, at which point I will install another internal drive, and get another external drive in order to back it up.

Pretty similar to what I am doing. Don't you think you'll suffer performance issues when you start to reach your hd limit?
I wonder if placing our pictures in the same drive where we have our Program files and Windows files is a good idea.

it's best to have your OS and programs on a separate drive. I have mine on a 160GB drive, which is large enough. The bigger drives serve as storage.

I do it some what the same way that BottomBracket does. As your selection grows you will find it hard to find things. I found this out the hard way. I would say find a way to organize and label your photos and key word them. You will like it down the road. Do a search in google and you will find a number of ideas on this. find a work flow and stick to it.
