A few months ago someone posted a site which sold similar devices to Pocketwizards but a bit cheaper. I'll probably kick myself later for trying to get them but does anyone know of an alternative to the pocketwizard?

Skyports (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505381-REG/Elinchrom_EL_19360_EL_Skyport_Universal_Radio_Slav e.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114) work well for me. AlienBee ones are meant to be good too. Not sure if the AB ones have a sync socket on the transmitter, which I find handy on the skyports, so I can have a flash in the hotshoe and still trigger the radio slaves.

i been using a wireless trigger from phottix... although it just an improvement from an ebay pt-04 trigger... it is good enough for me as for the time being... it comes with one trigger and two receiver... really cheap option from PW... i bought it just for Usd 35.00 only...

I would get the cybersyncs. They are low cost and they work great. Plus buying multiple receivers will not break the bank... If I did not already invest in a few PW, I would have these..

im surprised that noone talks about the other alternatives. here is a list that I have come across for radio triger
Bowens pulsar triggers
microsyncs
flash waves
ebay trigger
cybersyncs
pocket wizards
skyports
Radio poppers
I realise that its safer to stick with ones that other have tried and tested im just surprised that with all the people on the forums we dont get the other crop up more. but then again apart from pocket wizards and ebay triggers they are all similar price.

I have heard good things about microsyncs (http://www.microsyncdigital.com/home.cfm?CFID=722900&CFTOKEN=57342214)
You can pick them up at B&H for about half the cost of pw's.

See, when you factor the cost of those lithium button cells in use in most of those alternatives, over a couple of years heavy use, I don't see any of them being that much cheaper than pocket wizards (except maybe the super-cheap ebay junk that barely works).
Using rechargeables in PWs is very very cheap by comparison, for frequent users anyhow.
Just mentioning it since I've never really seen anyone make that argument in any of the many threads discussing alternative triggers.

+1 I use duracell 2650 with the PWs and don't need to worry...plus if they die...I can always get AA almost anywhere.

Cybersyncs use a CR2450 Coin Cell in the transmitter, rated for 2 years used or not. The battery is available for $2 - $5 in most drug stores.
The receivers use a AA battery. If you shoot shoe mounted flash you generally have a ton of those around.
I've not had to replace the shipped batteries in my Cybersyncs yet but they aren't getting heavy use right now either.

My vote for Cybersyncs...they have a new device soon to be released that will allow you to control all your lights from the transmitter...should be very useful.

Apologies for the possible stupidity of this question, but can you use the Cybersync to trigger a remote camera as well? If so, what would be the setup/requirements.

My recent area of research - I haven't done this yet but the answer is yes, you can trigger the camera. You need a receiver and a shutter cable like this: http://www.flashzebra.com/shutter_pw/index.shtml
You would need a transmitter on the camera set to a separate channel to trip any flash units with the camera.

As above - I have my cybersyncs, havn't used them a lot but the times I have they have performed flawlessly. Was very impressed with the build quality too. The only downside is the insane amount they charged me to ship to New Zealand.

Radio Popper Jrs should be VERY close to being ready for sale. Their last update was on Sept the 10th I believe and I think stated they were very close to being ready. Like a few weeks.

I would have purchased Cybersyncs, but they do not ship to Australia.
I have been using Elinchrom skyports for about a month now and they seem to work fine. Just remember to buy your PC to 2.5mm plug cables for your speedlites as they are not included.

Cybersyncs here too, only had them a couple of weeks but there hasnt been a time they haven't popped yet, last use was 15 mtrs away and through a wall and kitchen benches(receiver was on floor). You can remote a camera with it, and also bridge if you have more then one receiver, which is camera to receiver to receiver. Easy to use, easy to set, and they work :-). Comes with all cables needed, well built: nice and solid. One thing I noticed is the pc connectors that come with them are real solid, which is great imho as this is where most cables go wrong when they do.
