The photos have only been resized. I'm going to crop them down to see if it helps bring out the "action".

Thanks for any feedback as we plan to do this shoot again the near future :D

For newbies the images aren't bad. You've got the ball in the frame, you've got some good action, you've got faces, the exposures are good but what detracts from them as sports images is the loose cropping. You have to tighten these up to fill the frame. If you're shooting at a low ISO like 100 or 200 you can do that with these images and get a decent snap without the noise. The other alternative of course is to get much closer, which is of course, difficult to do in tennis with a 50 mm lense, or get a longer lens. Ncie start. Keep em coming.

I concur with Chris.

Tighter crop would really improve these.

Tighter crop
Shorter DOF

Timing isnt bad so youve got that working for you.

Keep at it.

gotta keep that guide arm (opposite arm w/o racquet) up and basically pointing at the ball. that way it will be there, after you swing, to kinda catch the tennis racquet to keep you in balance.
oh the photo...um, try and recreate the first photo. you can see the player in focus and the canon bag blurring in the bg. if you want...throw the camera in sports mode and shoot from there. pay attention to the settings and learn from there. or just adjust your iso to 100 and fstop to maybe f2 and then find your shutter speed from there. it should be pretty high so you can stop the motion.
oh and don't forget to stay on your toes. both when you're playing and when you're photographing cause you need to get a little closer with a 50mm lens :-D good luck!

Nice shots, when you get you 70-200mm f2.8L you'll find it much better for tennis pictures. When you get it shoot wide open so that you get better player/background separation. "ENJOY"

I like the last three the best

(cuz of the brighter exposure and more vibrant colors, of course;) )
