Yes, I searched for bird books and came up with nothing. Surely on this site there has been some questions about what book to get. I am looking for a decent book on North American birds. Since I now have caught myself shooting birds while out I figure I better get a little smarter. Who knows, there might be this ultra rare bird flying around me and I wouldn't even know.

Look for the Peterson or Sibley guides.

I've been really happy with the National Geographic "Field Guide to the Birds of North America" (fifth edition). I'm not very knowledgeable as to how the birds are sorted into families so I find some of the guides confusing. The Nat Geo book has tabs for the major groups of birds and quick reference indexes on the front and back cover flaps. I'd say go to a book store and try them out, pick a bird to look up then try to find it in each of them and see which one is organized the same way your brain works.
