Hi there
Well, we all know that this forum is additive and once you buy your DSLR you realize that there is always something new you want to buy. So, just out of curiosity, what gear have you bought after reading (or asking about) in this forum?
In my case it was the 70-200 f2.8 L with the UV Filter from BH...

Are you serious? LOL BECAUSE OF THIS FORUM... I ended up buying a 300D.
BECAUSE OF THIS FORUM, I ended up pulling a friend from the Ni**n side to the Canon side and selling her my 300D.
Because of THIS FORUM HERE, I had to have a 20D right here right now, so I financed one.
Oh yeah and because of this forum, I've bought 3 lenses, a sigma flash and working on getting my name out as a freelancer in the Miami area.
And because of this forum I've attained so much knowledge and motivation and made some awesome friends along the way :) so take that.

After having had brain surgery 2 years ago, missing out lots of time from my official job as Social Worker with the State, I ended up selling my Canon EOS 3 and Canon Rebel with all lenses:( . Used to do alot of family/friends and friends of family special occasion shots, some concerts, and lots of wildlife photography. I thought that I may just never be right again and burried my head in the sand for a while. A few months ago, I purchased the ProShot 1 Prosumer with accessories (filters, extenders, etc) Guess what... I got hooked again. Then I found this forum. Reading the postings in this forum sent me in a twister like fun ride. I am having fun in photography again, made up my mind that I will stick to my Canon favoritism and bought the D20 instead of the 70d to become my "1st digital slr". Purchased a Sigma 18-125 3.5-4.5 and the Sigma Di Super 500 with a Strobo Pro-T bracket. Wawoom. Got to shot my mother in laws wedding last weekend with about 600 +++ pics. Turned out great and I felt soooo in my element again. I got a Canon 50 1.8 on route to me, a Strobo Flash Difuser, a car window tripod with it for my next order. Yeah, the folks on this forum were incredibly helpful in my selection of my next order: Sigma 100-300 4.0. Just gotta love it. My bankaccount doesn't:rolleyes: ; I can relate to the rest of you with that. My mind and spirit are soring though :D

That's interesting.... this forum is one of the few places where I can go for opinions. In the camera shop.... well, let's just say that I don't trust their "professional advice"

Hi there
Well, we all know that this forum is additive...
Got to love your Freudian slip there. Yes, this forum is additive to your lens collection! And subtractive to your cash collection. :D
But, an artist cannot paint without their brushes. ;)

This is tough,..
Only on a few occasions have I posted a question here whith the idea it would end up influencing a buying decision,...
However on the other hand,. what I read here has certainly influenced me as much as, if not more than any research on a purchase I have ever done,.. of that there is no doubt.
Here is what I bought completely on my own,
10D, Sigma 28-300mm, Sigma 50-500mm, Sigma 70-200mm and my initial manfrotto tripods and monopods and heads Camera bag, (note, the 28-300mm was completely my own mistake!!! We have to start somewhere ;) )
Essentially everything else I own this forum has had some kind of influence on... usually in conjunction with trying things out on my own,. in fact pretty much allways.
For example,. for ages I was told to get the 100-400mm before I finally did,. but I needed to play with one first...
This has been the same with most lens purchases,. the only lenses I bought with out ever trying one out where the 50mmm f/1.8 (ages ago) and the 100mm Macro (just recently)
I can't recall if anyne here had anything good to say about the Sigma 500,, f/4.5 EX which I now cherish before I decided to go that route... I think not,. since then I know some others have also come to love that lens, but I can't recall mention of it before then here on these forums.
Now Cameras...
The Hype we all stirred up together rearding the 1D MkII was not only influential,. I was truly posssesed byt the spirit of forum in my quest for that Camera! Wow did we ever whip up a fervor,.. if you weren't around for that,. it makes the "20D Fever" look like a mild cough..
:)

Because of this forum, I got a 100-400L from 17Photo. Oddly enough, now I have it, I've found it goes on my D60 and actually produces quite good images!
The other thing this forum forced me to buy was a 16-35L for when I went to Egypt last year and visit the Cairo museum. Strangely enough since then they've banned cameras in the museum....
now I seem to be reading threads in the 24-70 range!

Thanks to this forum, I'm about to purchase a 2nd lens (a 70-200).... and my first one (28-80) hasn't even gotten here in the mail yet.... for that matter, neither has the camera (300D)!
Thank god I also do graphic deisgn work which requires a lot of photos, so I can stop buying stock images and write all of this stuff off as a business expense.

I was very much inclined on N***n D70, however I got a 20D + sigma 18-125 after joining this forum. This forum pulled me from N** :-)
For me, more important than "what you ended up buying aftar joining .." is what I "got" after joining this forum :-) :-)
inspiration & support & answers & guidance in a friendly environment... lots of good things which helped me (& are still helping me) to get some skills + ultimately made me go for another canon product :-)

Triple rebates!!! That was last year for me.
I can't blame the forum for too many of my purchasing decisions, although I can't say it wasn't a factor, either. When one is an L-coholic, normal thought processes no longer apply, and willpower is purely an abstract idea.

I don't ask because after almost 10 years of shooting, you just have to try everything on your own. Everyone has their own opinion, and I respect that. But sometimes my own taste doesn't match someone else's taste. So throught the years, its best just to try it out before you buy.
I go to a store with a few targets, and shoot it in house or rent it for a few days. if everything is on the "up and up". Than it's a good item to purchase.

A 10D, a 50mm f1.8 and a 85mm1.8, an ultra II 1g card and an extra battery. All great choices. Except the 20D came out about 5 weeks after I bought my 10D, I was kinda bummed about that.

Don't get me started on Triple Rebates!
This was my weakness this year,.
Allways wnated that 135mm f/2L,.. and wouldn't you know,. it was elligible for the rebate,. but why stop there,. I just had to have the 85mm f/1.8,.. it's small light, fast and cheap! AND it too was elligible for the Rbate,. suddenly that 135mm f/2L is getting even less expensive as the rebate doubles,...
But why stop there? ;)
Still don't have a real Macro lens... and GUESS WHAT?
Yep,. you guessed it,. rebate elligible! At triple rebate the 135mm sells NEW for less than I have EVER seenn one sell used
.... Aaaaaaargh,.. the HORROR
