Depends a great deal on what you want from it. It use smugmug and pay $150 per year which allows me to use my own domain name (no reference to smugmug). I forget how much the domain name was but its not very much. You can use someone like www.godaddy.com for that. Good luck.

It also al depend on if you hire a designer to design the site. I usually start at $500 for your basic web site design and it go's up from there. Then if you want a CMS it usually starts any where from $1000 to $1500 and go's up. Web hosting prices are usually about $7 a month and you get them cheaper the more years you pay for. As for domain name it all depends on where you go and how hot the name is. Go Daddy has some great prices for domain names but I don't use them for my self.

I have a custome site that i did myself.
My Website (http://bscphoto.com)
It has full photo selling capabilities and a portfolio side.. i am happy with it.. but then again, i did it myself so it cost very little.. just the hosting which is $6.95 a month plus $90 a year for dedicated SSL and Server (you will learn about that if you ever want to sell things)
If i were to build a site lke that for a customer, it would be over $1000.00 THat site takes months to put together and a lot of graphical and coding skill..
I do, however am happy with my host (You dont NEED dedicated servers for a site if you are ok with using a shared SSL.) because when i started, i didnt know ANYTHING about websites, andthey had 24 hr phone service AND the plan itself gave me a lot of room to grow... Just be VERY VERY careful when picking hosts.. Do your research and MAKE SURE you have the ability to run an e-commerce store if you choose to do so in the future. I signed up for a cheap popular host and when i decided i wanted to sell things, they didnt support Mysql OR php which meant there was NO WAY unless i wanted to pay another $20 a month!
