i have been using a mac laptop up until this week i got me a desktop pc,
i just found out that i cant use my external drive to transfer files over since the pc wont be able to read the files, and now since the drive is formatted to ntfs, the mac wont write to the external drive.
i have copied pictures on a blank dvd on my mac, and when i put in my pc, it doesnt read anything in the disc
is this a serious issue? my next idea would be to transfer files to a memory card and then transfer it over to my pc, could be a lenghty process, but if that doesnt work... i dont know what to do..
anybody else switched from mac to pc or vice versa?

Strange about the DVD, I'd have thought that'd work.
I regularly transfer files from my mac to a friend's PC and vice versa using USB keys (many, have never had one not work). I've done it by burning CD's too, but USB keys are so much easier. Future Shop currently has a 4GB one for $10.

Sounds like you didnt "finalize" the DVD. Sometimes even other Macs can't read a non finalized disk. I dont know where you found out you cant use a drive. jpg is a jpg, does not matter what computer it is on.

DvD should work.
Both Mac and PC can read / write FAT 32.
OSX can natively read NTFS.
I think both Mac and PC can be made to write to each others file system.
Here's how to write ntfs on OSX: Click (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070220150856279)

is there a way i can still finalize the burnt dvds? or would i need to just burn new ones? i also thought that too about the jpg, but the pc doesnt see a single file in the dvds i burnt and when i put it in the mac, its all there

You should finalize every disk after you know you will not add anything more to the disk. Not really.... but... it is like writing the index to the disk. The computer that wrote the disk knows where stuff is. But ANY other computer has no idea and does not even try. You can still finalize the disk. Just put it back in and you can finalize it with the software you wrote the disk with.
