I have a MacBook Pro, and want to buy an external monitor to plug in at home. I am wondering if I will be able to do that and still use the monitor on MacBook?
Also, what kind of cables do I need to hook it up?

Yes, you can hook up just about any monitor to the MacBook Pro since it has a dedicated video card. Also, the laptop has a DVI connector (most PC laptops only have an RGB) plus it comes with an adapter to change the default DVI to an RGB connector. Unlike many PC laptops you also have alot of control over the second monitor without the need of added software. You can for instance do the following right out of the box; different monitor sizes on each, different wallpaper on each and place the second monitor anywhere around the primary. I have my secondary monitor ontop of the laptop monitor for example.
