Hi

I wonder if anyone can advise me what advantages if any there would be in me buying a 580 flash unit for my 1dS (original version). I find my 550 EX quite inconsistent in its exposure and wondred if the new model would be any better or if any of the 'new' features would work with the Mark One version?

Thanks for your advice and assistance.

Mark

I must have missed something on the 580 marketing hype. Most of what I saw did not lend its self to add functionality that I would normally worry about. I think the significant upgrade was the conversion fo using lense focus length data and camera info to calculate the flash zoom. Other than that I havent heard of much.

Correct me if there are some "great" benefits that I am missing.

I have both and they are both inconsistent....The 580 may be slightly stronger but I don't look at it as being a significant breakthrough and I have two of them.
