I was taking photos of people walking in the rain for my photography class today. This one didn't come out completely in focus, I was shooting in Av and got a 1/10th shutter speed at ISO 800 f/4, which gave me this (after a little selective sharpening in CS3):

What do you think?
-Within acceptable means for not being dead on focus and 1/10
-Candidate for the recycle bin, go shoot more photos before Thursday!

Just my opinion here'
I assume the subject was the person with the dark blue umbrella.
If the subject was in focus and the rest out of focus, great.
If the rest in focus and the subject blurred, great.
But in this photo neither is in focus or all is blurred. Ths photo is small so I can't really tell.
This is the kind of shot that I try to take many shots of with several different combinations of shutter, aperature etc. so that I might get one really got shot. I don't know what others would do.
It was a good idea and a good try, but don't rely on one shot to get the photograph you see in your mind's eye.
Good luck.

Never seen this come up before. Usually, one or the other is sharp. Can't say that it is acceptable to not have anything free of motion blur. I certainly don't like it, but that's just me being picky, as usual.

Also, although timing is often hard in shots like this, try to prevent overlaying subjects on distracting backgrounds. Here with the person with the red umbrella. The umbrellas don't necessarily present a problem, but the people beneath them are dressed in similar color clothing. Even if the aforementioned focus issues were resolved, that person behind the main subject would probably have been in focus also and would have been distracting.
It's a good attempt, tho, at a shot that shows action as well as tells a story. On the next blustery day, give it another try! :)

Thanks all!
I got enough keepers to turn in my project, so I can omit this long-shot. I didn't think it would rain yesterday, so I wasn't prepared for the shooting conditions then.
