I have a Canon S820D printer to complement my Powershot S30 Camera, & bought into the official line that Canon paper was needed for the best print results.

True, I'm still unbelievably happy with my prints, but the cost is making it tough - at around $9.00 per 20-pack, my per-print cost is 45cents for each 4x6in print. I finally succombed & bought a 100-pack of Kodak 8.5x11paper which, when using a paper cutter, yielded 300 4x6 prints - at $24.00, this lowered my per print cost to only $.08.....too bad it didn't work.

Does anyone have a cost-effective way to use a high-end Canon printer with a less costly paper, while not sacrificing too much quality? I've learned enough to buy Canon 8.5x11 paper & cut it into smaller 4x6 sections, but it's still much more expensive than using Kodak or Epson paper. Any suggestions welcome

Rgds Mike

Where are you from? Do you have a Costco there?
Here in B.C. I buy my photo paper at Costco. I beleive it was about $20.00 for 100 sheets of 4x6 Epson paper. In the U.S. it should be unbeleivably cheap.

I have experimented as you have and have found an alternative that does not yield prints as good as PhotoPro but did perform better than Kodak Premium, and HP. What I found was an Avery product( their best grade for photo realistic prints) It is less expensive and they very accurately recommended that the setting for paper type should be "high gloss film" and set the quality at high. It gave very little of the "mottled" look that I was getting with the Kodak and HP as far as skin tones and shadow areas, at least in my opinion. I also have had some success with a brand called Jet Print.
Cheers,

Thx Colin

I bought the Kodak paper at Costco - here in the Los Angeles area. US$24.00 for 100 sheets - quality of prints was so poor compared with the Canon paper that it's not an option for me, unfortunately.

Have you tried Redriverpaper.com ? Their polar gloss is very simialr to the Canon photo paper pro. And its only $22 for 100 4x6 sheets. Give them a call and they will send you some samples which you can try out.
