Hey all,
I've just got a new Sony laptop with an X-black LCD screen. The display is much more vibrant than my previous monitor and other 'conventional' monitors. Everything is brighter, more saturated, sharper etc than before.
However I'm wondering if this means I'm seeing something completely different on my screen now to what others are - if I'm under false illusions when I look at my pics.
Are there any other X-black users out there who can advise?

Im not an X-black user but i do own quite a few laptops and all the TFT LCD monitors they come with are much brighter then even my desktop LCD, and so I calibrated it with software and a color chart.

I have a Vaio with an X-Black screen and like you thought it looked wonderful. Masses of contrast and good vibrant colour. HOWEVER. Putting a test picture up on the Vaio and my trusty 23" widescreen Sony flatty (calibrated) showed that X-Black creates the extra contrast at the expense of detail i.e. it clips the dark end of the colour spectrum quite heavily. Whilst this is fine for most things its not that good for Photoshop if the destination is print.

It's very difficult to have two monitors display an image with exactly the same contrast, brightness and colours. If you want your monitor to display images as they should be, you should calibrate and profile your monitor using a device such as a Spyder and use colour management aware software (such as Photoshop).
