I was just one of the relatives with a camera :P and tried my best to stay out of my nieces way (the official photography). I really wanted to take more photos of the bride and groom but didn't want to step on any toes so I just shot from behind and didn't ask anything of the main subjects. I was using my new 85 mm 1.8 so I really had to learn to keep my distance with that lens. Some day I hope to build my own photography business. Would these be usable in a portfolio?
Here's a couple from the day that I liked. What do you think? Any adjustments that need to be made with any of them?

#6 is my Fav.
#8 kind of looks off, not sure maybe the way the makup is or the way the post work was done.

Thanks. I have started shooting in RAW and have been loving it. However, at some point I had given my brother my camera to shoot a picture of me and my dh...and we were talking photography. I think he turned it to shoot auto (green square) and never switched it back and so the last picture was shot as a jpg. I'm finding it so hard to really adjust the jpg pictures now that I have a taste of the RAW files.
Thanks for looking :)

These are beautiful, Caredock (although I agree with the above comment on #8 )
6 is my fav too. Just a pretty, simple shot, but yet speaks loads! I definitely think you could have a future in the photography business, and these would be a nice start to your port!

I like the shots but it appears you did some skin smoothing...And I think you went a little over board with it.

I did just a tad of skin smoothing...as both the bride and brides maid had perfect skin...so I didn't do much. Maybe I should have done nothing to them because they really did have beautiful skin. I wanted to smooth out my sister's arms (the bride) because I know that she didn't like what she saw :P I didn't hardly have to put the opacity up at all. :P I followed a tutorial and they guy doing the tutorial had the opacity up a lot more than I used. I will go back though and tone it down and see what comes of it. I don't want them to look overboard...yikes..LOL Thanks for being honest.
Do others think I went overboard? LOL

All the shots are very nice. I would have thought you were the main photographer if you didn't mention you weren't.
It may be my monitor, but they all (other than #6) look just a tad underexposed. In #6 you might also be able to recover some of the detail of her dress.
Since you have image editing turned on, here's a quick edit of #5:

Did you shoot these with all natural light I see no apparent flash shadows? Nice coloring and narrow depth of field. Did you shoot wide open with that lens or stop down a bit?

Thanks. Moeronn I like your edit. This is an area I need to work on. I have a hard time gauging exposure...and color and well, trying to make things look pleasing. I also need to learn how to calibrate my monitor :P.
Denise....these were all natural lighting. No flash. Thanks. I suppose I did shoot wide open...I have to admit I'm new to shooting in RAW and in Manual mode. So I just used the P mode. I just don't feel confident yet to start practicing at an event like this. I need to go out with the kids and learn to should in M mode or AV or TV...use them as my guinea pigs..LOL Goodness I've read and read and read more on the subjects of apeture, shutter speed and ISO...but it goes in and goes right back out without me thoroughly understanding it all...LOL The only way I'll learn is to practice I suppose. So, to answer your question...ummm...I shot however the camera was set up in P mode to shoot....going now to go crawl under a rock..:P

Hi, some lovely shots and tend to agree with most of the comments already made.
Hope you don't mind but I did a little tweaking on #4
White balance (Auto) in RAW (used whitest part of her dress)
Exposure +0.75 in RAW
Blacks up +13 in RAW
then added a small vignette.

homera1..that looks fantastic. Man, I am going to go back to my pictures and try tweeking them. I am amazed that the little tweaking you did really made the picture pop. I see the difference now...LOL Some day I hope to be able to have the pictures perfect :) Thanks for the edit and allowing me to see there is a change to make them better.

no worries Caredock. The exposure and blacks adjustment is over done a little here to show what can be done, but you might prefer it witha little less blacks adjustment. maybe try +8?
oh and also I up'd the saturation to about +7 (I forgot about that) it doesn;t make a huge difference but it is the little things :-)
also the white balance took a little fiddling. If I chose the wrong part of her dress it looked wrong so I choose a few points until I liked the way it looked.
some photo's come out from the camera ok, but most need some amount of tweaking to get the best off. I learnt about the exposure and Blacks adjustent from a scot Kelby book - it is pretty obvious now, but didn;t realise until I read it :-)
PS try it yourself on #2 and show us what you get :-)
