Hi all!
This thread is dedicated to a meet which was arranged for the South-East UK POTN photographers this evening in London. We started off by Westminster Tube Station and walked along the river and eventually past the London Eye.
Here are my contributions - more to come from the others hopefully!

Beautiful shots David! It looks like that 40D performs well at high ISO. Is your 70-200 an IS version?

Thanks Pio and elses_pels :)
All the outdoor photos in my gallery:
http://www.pbase.com/hogster/potn_se_meet_81008
Were taken on a tripod, but with the ballhead loose enough to allow me to move the camera to compose the photo ... eg. I didn't tighten the ballhead before taking the shot – I simply used the tripod to steady the camera. The indoor shots were hand-held at ISO1600 or 3200. No noise-reduction was applied to the images as I was lazy when processing them (wanted to get them done quickly!), but it's still not bad IMO :)
Cheers!
David :)

We were asked to move on a couple of times by stupid security guards just down from Westminster Bridge. Next to the aquarium I think. I'm not too sure how far down that is, so we may have been outside somewhere else.:lol:

That looked like a good evening out. :-) Great set of photographs so far.
I was going to ask if you got any trouble with busy bodies! Typical. So what jurisdiction have these security guards got over you all in that public place?

Apparently our tripods were considered to be an obstruction to members of the public. Even though it wasn't actually that busy and any tripods were actually set up right next to the wall overlooking the river, where nobody really walks anyway.
I'm sure those security guards felt powerful and valued though. ;):p

To be fair, as I said to a couple of the guys on the night, they're just doing what they're told to do. It's the idiots in charge of those security guards who are giving out the ridiculous instructions that make life more difficult for us photographers.:evil:

Yes, I suppose so. Someone somewhere up the chain of command needs lancing with a monopod that's for sure!
I would like to do some photograpy in London, but I do hear quite a few accounts of photographers being bothered by various busy-body types. I would like to photograph all my favourite Art Deco buildings around the city.
Mike

If you're not afraid to stand up for yourself then it can be quite satisfying to tie the idiots in knots by talking about photographers rights and showing that you actually know a lot more about what you're entitled to do than they do.
On the other hand, I've had times when I really couldn't be bothered to argue or have already got the shots I wanted so I just packed up and left.
I got asked if I was still filming, I pointed out I didn't shoot film and he left me alone! Haha ..
I think that gives a great indication of just how stupid some of those guys really are.
They're just robots who repeat what the boss tells them to.

So, big question, did anyone get approached by the Tripod Police? As the others have said, just by security outside the County Hall because it's private property, I'm ok with that. But I seriously cannot believe we never got moved on while we had all the tripods out on Westminster Bridge  We must have took up all the pavement at some point! Talk about obstruction!
ohh well , a couple more
from the bouncing bridge !Hey Marcelo!!! Why d'you photoshop all my hair out? Nice shots by the way;) that bridge was a bit bouncy, one of my longer exposures came out with loads of camera shake!
Great shots again, particularly like Adam's from-the-hip roller blade shot. Thanks mate, I was really happy with how that came out, considering how unprepared I was for the shot.
Ok here's a follow on from the group shot...
