Hi,

I did another dead & hot pixel test on my 20D. This time I took 30 sec exposure in manual mode with different iso's, then converted RAW image to 16 bit tiff with breeze browser & ran check on images.
Case #1
Results:
- iso 400 - no issues
- iso 800 - no issues
- iso 1600 - 1 hot pixel
then realized noise reduction was on for long exposures.
so repeated the test again, this time not so good
Case #2
- iso 400 - 2 hot pixels
- iso 400 - 4 hot pixels
- iso 1600 - 6 hot pixels
- iso 3200 - 11 hot pixels

Didnt found any dead pixels though.
Now I dnt really know if these numbers are a real issue or not ?
Can you please advise if I should take the camera back to service centre or not ? I have shot around 400 images as of now.

Thank you

A 30 second exposure at EI 3200 and 11 hot pixels out of 8,200,000, and you're worried? How often do you take long exposures at high ISOs that you can't use noise reduction? Also, have you repeated these exposures to verify that the problem pixels are in the same place every frame? Because if you're seeing them in different spots, it's less likely to be a sensor problem than a processing (in-camera or post-processing) problem.

Thanks for your response Jon. I am totally out of clue if this count means anything negative.
Also is difficult to check if all the problem pixels are in same position, but atleast in the second test set I can find one red point which is consistant across frames for 800/1600/3200....

Try applying the successive pictures as layers in PS if you don't want to just put the cursor over them and read coordinates off the screen. But unless there's some reason you can't use NR, I wouldn't worry about that small a number of hot pixels at high ISO and long exposures.

i don't think you should worry about those numbers. It's normal :-P

OK, as long as they are normal, I am fine with it. I dnt want to send my camera back.
I just got scared a but seeing these results Imust say ....
Thanks

You only need to worry when a hot/dead pixel shows up in your everyday photos. If any of these actually show up or bug you normally you can send the camera to Canon. All they do is a software patch that ignores specific bad pixels and averages in the data from those surrounding it.

Thanks Smith... not much different than what a s/w on my laptop or noise reduction will do apperantly....
Anyway, I dont see any spots or issues with my day to day pictures, although I havnt specifically searched for issues in them.
Looking at comments from you guys, my camera results look normal, so I will just forget about this :-)

Cheers
