You all may have already come across this one, but I hadn't. I've been wanting a better tripod for a long time, but didn't need all the frills, or the robustness that many of the better brands have. Nor did I want to spend more than about $150. Also, I wanted something that would pack up nicely and not be a drag to carry around.

Here's what I bought today:

Sony VCT 1500L (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VCT-1500L-Digital-Camera-Camcorder/dp/B00065WNTU). (Amazon)

It's about perfect for my needs. It'll let you drop the camera down to about 6" off the floor (with the legs spread out to the sides), or allow you to bring the camera up to 6 feet off the floor; it's got the standard twist-lock pan-head; it'll rotate cleanly to either side for portrait mode (or anywhere within that range); comes with one quick-mount adapter (which is a bit larger than I wish it were - too big to keep on the camera, anyway). When you're ready to schlep it, it collapses to about 17" long, and omes with a carrying case.

I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow if there's any interest, but I'm really happy with it so far. It's no Bogen/Manfrotto, but it's perfect for what I need a tripod for.

Sure, I would love to see it.

Here are a couple quick ones, without the G7 mounted (I had to use it to take the pictures, lol). It's hard to get an idea of scale on these, so I'll charge a battery and take a couple more with the G7 on there.

With the legs out like this, the camera sits only 6" or so off the ground.

OK, here are a few more:

Here it is at its unfolded height:

And here it is, dropped as low as it'll go (the tubular part in the center has a removable section):

At full extension, the camera sits just below eye-level (I'm 6' tall).

Folded up, it's about 17" long, without the camera:

It look quite similar to the Slik Sprint Pro in size and Max and Min height!

Yeah, they do look similar - different heads, but the tripod itself looks very similar.

That link gave me an idea! Never even thought about doing this:

I'm only limited by my ability to reach the shutter release! lol
