I don't have a good enough lens to shoot under floodlights without a flash and these are my first attempts at night football.
What do you think?

The first one is descent but the second one is a bit too dark. But thats pretty good without any type of flash.

It's tough...the first pic shows a pretty good exposure. What lens are you using? ...and what exposure were you getting?
If you fired a flash off at any senior football match in the UK, it wouldn't be very long before you were shown the door!! So, it's pretty much all about making the best of a bad job - generally a very bad job!! Although I have to say, floodlighting in the lower divisions has taken a turn for the better over the last few seasons... even the likes of Thurrock and Grays allow for 1/400s-1/500s, f/2.8 at 3200ASA. What joy!

Our floodlights are awful though. Nobody complained but I tried not to flash directly at players.
I've added all of my camera and lens info to my sig..

like me...you need a 70-200 f/2.8 :)

I'll get a better lens in about a year because this is all new to me right now and I have to walk before I can run...
