...found on the new N****:
GPS connectivity expands applications
The latitude, longitude, altitude and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) at which a shot is taken can be recorded from a GPS unit to the image's metadata. GPS units that comply with the NMEA 0183 (ver.2.01) interface standard can be connected using the optional GPS cable (MC-35).
Cool

I'd love to have it built in... I'd probably never plug in the GPS whenever I took a picture.
If at all possible, I'd also like to record the angle (relative to true north) the lens was pointing, and the angle relative to level. What the heck.

You'd have to remember to strip all that out of your EXIF info, or everyone else'd be running off to your favourite shooting spots . . . Actually, Kodak offered GPS support with the DC260 of years past.

I think this would be a nice addition to the 'Data Verification Kit' designed for law enforcement. Not only could you verify that the image is unaltered, you can verify where the image was taken.

This works on the 1D MKII and the 20D.

Have Fun,
I thought it only did a MD4# on the image, and stored in the image? How does it do location?

It actually does much more than MD5. Read here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55813 or skip down until you see a link to a Canon page if you just want the real info.
But if the EXIF is inside the RAW then the Data Verification would also verify the EXIF.

In 10.000 shots my GPS data would look too much the same :o

What I was saying is that if Canon had a GPS that recorded in the EXIF you could verify that the image was unaltered (with the DVK) as well as indicate where it was taken.

Would be very handy for outdoors adventurerers and landscape photographer, and the occasional pro vacationer. Not to mention most cellphones have GPS capability in them these days so its not like its a large piece of equipment. They could fit one integrated into the camera body, and prolly could make it smaller if they were determined to.

And as a side benefit, using GPS data would also verify the *time* it was taken very accuratly as well.
Cheers
