Hello,

I´m looking for a good multi-propuse lens. I found this Sigma lens: Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Macro Autofocus Lens (Sigma4less.com).

Somebody knows about this lens?

Thanks

Jesc, I don't know how to say this subtile, so I'll just say it: this lens sucks. My father used it, and at some point in time I just threw the thing out of the window and bought him a decent Canon 28-135 IS. Great allround lens. Go for this one, you won't regret it.

The 28-105 is also a good all purpose lens for about $200 less than the 28-135.

Primes are optically often the best as they are easiest to make. Zooms are a compromise to get it looking good at all focal lengths. The wider the zoom range the larger the compromise. If you throw enough money at it you can get a decent lens, but a cheap uber zoom will suck.

Having said that if all you want is outdoor or flash photos to print out at 6x4 then go ahead. Just don't expect the photos to hold up under pixel examination of enlarge very well as then corner softness, vignetting, chromatic aberation, lack of contrast, distortion (all compared to a decent lens such as the $70 50 f/1.8 ) will jump out and bite you.

I'll vote fot the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 as well. Very good for the money.

I have used the slightly older non 'macro' version of that sigma lens-the one with the red ring.
It was surprisingly good(!),but i never was satisfied with the overall image quality....
The tamron 28-300 XR was very similar in image quality

The canon 28-105 (3.5-4.5 version) easily beats it at the wide end-even the humble canon 75-300 betters it at the long end

The Tamron 28-75 is capable of drop-dead amazing pictures. That's what I have, and I've tried various other lenses. Incredibly sharp, simply amazing.
