dead bug walking...

I confess I found this bug toes up in the bathroom.

Rather than let his death be in vane I perched him on a bamboo skewer and took some flash shots - 40D, 100mm F2.8 macro and portable light tent for the first one, and the same rig but with 68mm of kenko tubes for the second. The second is a focus stack of 5 images - some haloing resulted.

The light tent did a reasonable job of diffusing, but I reckon I need some cheap studio lights to get a smoother result.

Unfortunately dead bugs seem to pick up a lot of unattractive fluff and stuff too.

They havn't started coming out yet over here.
It's crazy how large you managed to magnify it, the colours are great.
They eyes look kinda lifeless...but that's to be expected with a dead subject I suppose :)

Makes a good practice subject- nice shots. As commented above the eyes give it away.

Thanks Guys, yeh I never would have thought there was much life to see in a bug's eyes, but it is really quite obvious when you look close:D
