I was able to take the day off and check out the practice runs at Fleet Week today. I haven't gotten a chance to really go through the shots yet, but I grabbed a handful to post. Any suggestions would be great as I'm going to try to make it back Sunday for the real show. Anyone else from here going? I'll try to post some better ones once I've had a chance to go through them. Oh, and these were taken with a 300/2.8 that I picked up last week from a member here. It's a tank but I love it!!!

Thanks for the comments. I've only done a couple airshows. I know I need to learn to slow down the shutter more on prop planes so you get the nice prop movement. I'm sore as heck today from holding the 300/2.8 IS over my head for 4 hours yesterday. It's gona take some getting used to. hehe. Mikey, I'll be on Pier 41 probably. Just look for a big fat guy with a big white lens. :-)

Very nice shots. Looks like other than the prop blur on Fat Albert, you're ready.

Very nice. The last one is excellent. Nice composition, Alcatraz make a cool backdrop!

How much do you have to crop with the 300mm? Is a 1.4x TC an option?

Great shots! I was at Treasure Island today. I think being on the wharf side is much better, but the jets did fly over us several times.

awesome shots!

is the Wharf a good spot?
I was in Pac Heights working all day :( outside at least.

I will go tomorrow with a few lenses. One of the blue angels flew over me on Broadway about 100 feet up! I would say 300mm would be too much for that one. I am thinking of going back to Pacific Heights for the first fly over and then flying over to the Wharf???

Uh oh... think the pier will hold us both? hahaha

I actually used the 1.4x the whole time. Most of my shots were not cropped. At least the ones with background. The jets in the sky were cropped a little. From Pier 41 it worked really well. There was maybe a couple shots that it was too long like when they litterally fly over Pier 39 but overall it worked out well.

Thanks again for all the comments. Much appreciated.

Pier 41. On the other side of Pier 39 than where you were. If you walk out to the end of the pier there's a 3 level bench/platform. I stood on there to get above the crowd. Granted, on Friday when I went there wasnt much of a crowd.

Those are nice pics. I was shooting from Sausalito's coast guard station with my 300mm lens. There were some people there with 600mm lenses and some with extenders.

Nice shots! Great backgrounds to give perspective. You got the cruise ship in there too. I only had my 300mm and my 70-200 with me so I couldnt get far enough away to get shot. It was huge!
