I was in Bathurst yesterday for the top-ten shoot out qualifying for today's Bathurst 1000 endurance touring car race. The great thing about the Saturday qualifying racing is all of the other support races in various formats. Here are a couple of shots captured from the day.

The first one would have been a cracker if it was more in focus. That Mini looks crazy.

Yes - you're absolutely right. My first go at motorsport, and it took me most of the morning to realise that I shouldn't be delaying between focussing and shooting. I just love the flames on the shot and couldn't resist posting it. The two below are after I got my focus sorted.

the V8 Supercar pics look like the white balance is off, a little blue...

Thanks RadAL. I think you're right. I'll have a go at adjusting them.

Not to bad dodge but they look a little overexposed. Also are you using AI servo to focus? By the way bloody ford won

G'Day Mark,

I'm as dissappointed as you about the Lowndes/Whincup victory! I wasn't using AI Servo to focus. This makes a big difference?

Sure does mate, the only way to shoot motorsport really. Give it a try it actually tracks the object your following and keeps adjusting the focus until you press the shutter.

The guy in the first pick should have won if those cheating Ford drivers hadn't tried to take him out early in the race...........lol
Loved all the drama in the last 25 or so laps.
Seriously thinking about coming over for next years event.

I know exactly what you mean. Getting caught behind Stephen "Captain Slow" Richards at the end didn't help his cause either, because a final stoush at the end with Lowndes would have been awesome.

The race is worth the trip, particularly with all of the support classes. So many photo oppotunities. All I want to know now is how I get myself a press photographers' vest for 2009!

Also Lowndes turned straight into Murph coming up mountain straight on the first lap and nothing was said  cost Murph a pit stop though. Whinge over sorry

Thanks! I think the Mini Challenge was the best racing on the Saturday. They really got into it, and four cars were vying for the win right until the end. On the last lap of the first mini-race the leader (Matt Neal) made a mistake on top of the mountain and finished fourth I think. The picture above captures how hard these guys were racing.
