Hi folks,

I got fortunate to be able to borrow for a couple of days a pre-production 5DM2 from Canon Philippines. Before I returned the unit yesterday, I played around with DOF control:

Weather didn't cooperate in the field (rainy), but I tried my hand at shooting HD bird videos.http://www.birdforum.net/images/smilies/yellow/grin.gif

Great work! Although the video itself isn't all that interesting it really is pretty exciting to see what can be done with a decent lens and a bit of time. I can't wait to see more short films coming from people using zooms and supertele's on the 5D2 in the future.

Thanks for posting.

Alright be honest....How much of a cut does canon give you, Because if I watch many more samples like this I'm gonna have to buy one.

Most of the samples I have seen were shot with lenses I will never own (1600mm) I assume this is an 800 w/2x . But your shot of the wasp's and the 100macro...wow I can relate to that lens and can hardly wait till the day I can own the camera.

Thanks Romy! Those were superb, the bokeh in the shrike clip was awesome.

Simple, simple, simple but very effective.

Shows very well how you can do some pretty cool things with really shallow DOF.

Great stuff Romy!

Two questions:

You said at one point that you mistakenly assumed that the camera used the ISO setting you had selected for Live View stills. How in fact did you set ISO for the video?

Second, you of course changed the focus during the DOF video -- did you notice if there was a chance to change the aperture in real-time, like the CA controls in Live View (or our normal method)?

Hi Tony,

1. The camera automatically selects the ISO in video mode, no confirmation yet which range is useable.

2. In video recording mode, the main dial (thumb control) can apply EC, with the camera presumably adjustting the shutter speed, Av and/or ISO to brighten or darken the exposure. Even if the Live View still capture is set to Av-priority, the camera won't necessarily use the chosen Av, at least with the pre-prod unit I used.

Here's a couple of responses I posted at DPR re this point:

Romy

A small nitpick, the main control dial is under your shutter finger and the quick control dial is under your thumb.

I stand corrected..... I mean the quick control dial which is operated by the thumb (not the one near the shutter button).

I was thinking the same thing (regarding the lenses that I will likely never own) but he has the Sigmonster 300-800 in his signature, so I'm going to assume he's using that with the 2x, not the Canon 800L. So considering I have the 100-400, I'd be more than happy to have 800mm at f11, especially seeing how good his 1600mm looks at f11. Now with that 100mm Macro, I'd like to see some extension tubes on it and a really close up of something. Oh, the posibilities are endless.
